In 2023, Ben Tierney founded the first program of its kind to teach and perform card magic for people experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles, called The Trick.
The first sessions were held at My Friend's Place on Hollywood Boulevard. The program has since expanded to four shelters across the Hollywood area, where Ben runs regular sessions as a volunteer. In late 2025, Ben also began bringing The Trick to Safe Parking LA.
Ben has been studying card magic for 16 years and has been a member of The Magic Castle in Hollywood for over a decade. His professional background is in film and television, having worked as an executive at various Los Angeles production companies. He continues to work independently in the entertainment industry alongside his work with The Trick.
The Trick’s ‘card-in-hand’ logo was created by iconic LA-based tattoo artist Mark Mahoney of Shamrock Tattoo, located on Sunset Blvd.
